Bag the Web

Image
Bag the Web I recently found this new site (through my RSS feeds), Bag the Web. Its appeal is that you can organize web resources according to a topic. The site says, " BagTheWeb helps users curate Web content. For any topic, you can create a "bag" to collect, publish, and share any content from the Web. Beyond most curation tools' capability, BagTheWeb enables users to build networks of bags. This way bags can be linked together to provide rich and complete information about any topic." And if that isn't enough for you, it is also free. That was enough to draw me in! So let's see what this site can do.... Once I signed up and confirmed my email, I was in. I noticed a message from the site (see #1): " Using a bag, you can collect the best web content for a topic you are interested in. More than pure collection, this bag is also your creation. Sock Puppets!

This is a follow up to my previous post covering the differences between the apps of SockPuppets and the other one :). As I stated, I prefer SockPuppets. Last week I decided to "mix" things up in my class and introduce SockPuppets to my Science Methods class. As I write this I am kicking myself that I did not video them exploring this app! It was priceless! From the minute that I showed the app projected for the whole class, to the group work there was excited laughter. I first gave them a very basic "how-to" choose each item and recording audio with the characters. I have a small class to six and decided (because of lack of devices) to split them into two groups of three. Each group was to give an overview of part of the previously assigned reading material for that day. The groups got to work making their scripts (I told them to make sure that they knew what to say or the recording would not go well). Once the recording began, we ran into our first problem.....

Socks or Puppets

Image
This morning two apps on my iPad caught my eye. They were Sock Puppets and PuppetPals. Saved in my "digital storytelling" folder, I had downloaded these upon recommendation of others.  Several weeks ago I was privileged to see a student produced Sock Puppet project in a nearby school. However, unto this point I had not tried either of these myself. Sock Puppets drew me in first. This is a really cute and easy to use application. After starting a new project, you are given the choice of six sock puppet characters to use. A maximum of four puppets can be used at a time. Once you have chosen your characters, the 11 backgrounds are presented for selection. Seven of the backgrounds are fun images and four are solid color. Each selection you choose is "highlighted" by little puppet eyes. Following the selection of the background, you now have props and scenery to choose from (16 choices in all). Here again a max of four choices can be made. Five of the choices, outline...
